Sonya Briggs, PT

Movement Specialist | FMT, FMS, SFMA, CF-LI Trainer

Sonya’s Story:

Sonya received her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy in 1997 from Tennessee State University, Nashville, Tennessee.  Upon graduating she began her career in the acute care setting and outpatient rehab with a focus on sports rehab and work hardening.  Over the course of 20 years Sonya’s career path has led her to gain experience in ergonomic assessment, sports medicine and geriatric rehab with certifications in FMS, SFMA and as a Crossfit Level 1 trainer.  She has served as rehab manager for a multistate rehab corporation with a focus on geriatrics and outpatient services for the past 8 years.

The multitude of experiences across the landscape of healthcare combined with a continued desire for learning all things related to movement health is one of the driving forces leading Sonya to start Motus X with partners Nikki and Shehla.  She has a passion for improving movement health across the lifespan and helping individuals move better for longer.

NIKKI ORAZINE, DPT

Movement Specialist | FMT, FMS, SFMA, CF-LI Trainer

Nikki’s Story:

Nikki received her Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy in 2009 from Tennessee State University, Nashville, Tennessee.  She began her journey with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from Murray State University in 2005 where she played golf for the Lady Racers from 2000-2005.   She has experience in golf instruction and biomechanics, programming and personal training as well as the clinical skills she possesses as a therapist.  Her career path has led her to compile all of these experiences in her current practice with a focus on skilled and outpatient rehab.  In the past 8 years Nikki has gained extensive knowledge in movement health and biomechanics with certifications in FMS, SFMA and as a Crossfit Level 1 trainer.  Nikki’s current practice involves a range of clients across the lifespan from pediatrics to geriatrics.

Nikki’s innovative philosophy of movement health is what led her to begin Motus X to impart a change in the way our culture views aging and ability.  She is able to glean the truths from many different movement theories and principles and make application across all ages.

Shehla Rooney, PT

Geriatric Specialist | GCS, FDN-1

Shehla’s Story:

Shehla received a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy in 1997 from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Her career path has been diverse and vast, beginning with providing direct therapy services with a focus in Sports Medicine, from there, progressing to management of rehabilitation programs with a focus in post-acute care, to then Regional Consultant (responsible for 6 states) and eventually starting her own Rehab Consulting Company in 2002. She provided clinical education, management training, program de elopement and software solutions to Senior management of large chain National Rehab Companies.

This experience exposed her to long-term care and the geriatric population which unbeknownst to her was her passion and calling. This passion is why she became a Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist (GCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists. She has served as a Clinical Mentor and Instructor for GCS residents for the past 7 years.
